Eligibilty requirements

To be eligible, the candidate must either be a current student at any level of study or an undergraduate or postgraduate applicant who has been accepted at Newcastle University. Moreover, they should have attained representative honors at senior or age group levels nationally and/or regionally within the past year, and/or be a member of the National Governing Body’s (NGB) performance squads, or a similar equivalent. Additionally, the candidates must pledge to advance their skills in their respective sport and represent the university at British Universities Colleges Sport (BUCS) events if applicable.





Application Process

The students who are selected for the Sports Scholarship are expected to have achieved a regional, national, or international level of proficiency within the last 12 months. They should also be part of a National Governing Body Performance Squad or a comparable equivalent. Upon acceptance, the successful applicants will receive a grant of up to £5,000 that will cover their tuition fees and expenses.

The Sports Scholarship program provides students with various services, including:

  • Individual and/or small group strength and conditioning sessions,
  • Access to medical services such as physiotherapy and sports massage,
  • Professional coaching, mentoring/lifestyle support, athlete workshops that cover topics such as sports physiology, nutrition, psychology, screenings, injury prevention and management, and lifestyle management, sports science support,
  • Access to training facilities, and performance video analysis.
