Scholarship description

BU offers the Sport Scholarship program to exceptional athletes pursuing undergraduate or postgraduate studies. This program is designed to provide financial support to aid in the development of their sporting skills and help them reach greater heights in their athletic pursuits.

Scholarship Worth

As a Sport Scholarship recipient, you can apply for a funding amount of up to £5,000. This financial support can be utilized towards various aspects of your athletic development, including coaching, equipment, competition entry fees, travel expenses, and/or support services.

Once awarded the Sport Scholarship, you will be required to meet with the Sports Performance Manager to evaluate how the funds will be utilized to support your athletic goals throughout the academic year. Additionally, you must commit to attending a minimum of 75% of training sessions, represent BU in sporting competitions wherever feasible to promote SportBU’s initiatives, and agree to be featured in marketing materials.

Eligibility requirements

• To be eligible for the Sport Scholarship program, you must exhibit exceptional performance in your chosen sport and be part of a Regional, National, and/or International squad while competing at that level.
• Ideally, scholarship recipients will represent BU in both the BUCS program (League and Individual) and themselves and/or their club at regional, national, or international levels. Additionally, individual athletes must possess the competitive edge to excel amongst the top performers in the BUCS program.
• As part of your application for the Sport Scholarship, it is essential to provide a reference from either a High-Performance Coach or National Governing Body coach. If you are applying for a sport that is not included in BUCS program, you will need to provide two references along with your application to support your eligibility for the scholarship.

Scholarship Deadline:

The Sport Scholarship is available for courses commencing in September 2023 and January 2024. It is important to note that scholarships cannot be deferred to a later date. The application deadline for courses commencing in September is 31 August, and for courses beginning in January, it is 30 November.
